    Arendt pas à pas.Christine Noël-Lemaitre - 2019 - Paris: Ellipses.

Learning to Look: Dispatches From the Art World.Alva Noë - 2021 - Oxford University Press.
"Works of art sometimes leave us speechless. But they almost never shut us up. They can't. There's just too much to say. Talking about art doesn't leave things as they are; it changes everything. To look, to think, to say what you see, or why you respond as you do, this changes what you see and it changes your response. The effort and the caring remake us. They remake us, in real time, as we listen to the song, or examine (...)

“Le dépassement réalisé d’une différence”.Nicolas Noé & Oana Panaïté - 2024 - Journal of French and Francophone Philosophy 32 (1/2):49-68.

The History of Philosophy.A. C. Grayling - 2019 - New York, NY, USA: Penguin Press.
'Updating Bertrand Russell for the 21st century... a cerebrally enjoyable survey, written with great clarity and touches of wit... The non-western section throws up some fascinating revelations' Sunday Times The story of philosophy is an epic tale: an exploration of the ideas, views and teachings of some of the most creative minds known to humanity. But since the long-popular classic Bertrand Russell's History of Western Philosophy, first published in 1945, there has been no comprehensive and entertaining, single-volume history of this (...)

Easy journey to other planets, by practice of supreme yoga.A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda - 1972 - New York,: Macmillan.
"Interplanetary travel is very tempting and exciting because the sky is filled with unlimited globes of varying qualities. the desire to travel to other planets can be fulfilled by the process of yoga, which serves as a means by which one can transfer oneself to whatever planet one likes - possibly to planets where life is not only eternal and blissful but where there are multiple varieties of enjoyable energies. Anyone who can attain the freedom of the spiritual planets need (...)

  9. James and the early Laski: the ambiguous legacy of pragmatism.J.-A. C. Pemberton - 1998 - History of Political Thought 19 (2):264-292.
This essay considers the intricate relationship between the thought of William James and the political theory of Harold J. Laski mainly in the years 1915 to 1930. I suggest James's arguments and vocabulary have a greater presence in Laski's work than has been previously detailed. The links between James's and Laski's thought are apparent in Laski's accounts of the self and his descriptions of the nature and structure of social experience; each of these in some way derives from James's psychology, (...)

Der universale Leibniz: Denker, Forscher, Erfinder.Thomas A. C. Reydon, Helmut Heit & Paul Hoyningen-Huene (eds.) - 2009 - Stuttgart: Steiner.

An empirical bioethical examination of Norwegian and British doctors' views of responsibility and (de)prioritization in healthcare.Jim A. C. Everett, Hannah Maslen, Anne-Marie Nussberger, Berit Bringedal, Dominic Wilkinson & Julian Savulescu - 2021 - Bioethics 35 (9):932-946.
In a world with limited resources, allocation of resources to certain individuals and conditions inevitably means fewer resources allocated to other individuals and conditions. Should a patient's personal responsibility be relevant to decisions regarding allocation? In this project we combine the normative and the descriptive, conducting an empirical bioethical examination of how both Norwegian and British doctors think about principles of responsibility in allocating scarce healthcare resources. A large proportion of doctors in both countries supported including responsibility for illness in (...)

  21. An exact measure of paradox.A. C. Paseau - 2013 - Analysis 73 (1):17-26.
We take seriously the idea that paradoxes come in quantifiable degree by offering an exact measure of paradox. We consider three factors relevant to the degree of paradox, which are a function of the degree of belief in each of the individual propositions in the paradox set and the degree of belief in the set as a whole. We illustrate the proposal with a particular measure, and conclude the discussion with some critical remarks.

Towards the light: the story of the struggles for liberty and rights that made the modern West.A. C. Grayling - 2007 - New York: Bloomsbury Academic.
In Towards the Light, A.C. Grayling tells the story of the long and difficult battle for freedom in the West, from the Reformation to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, from the battle for the vote to the struggle for the right to freedom of conscience. As Grayling passionately affirms, it is a story - and a struggle - that continues to this day as those in power use the threat of terrorism in the 21st century to roll-back the liberties (...)

Consumer-driven and commercialised practice in dentistry: an ethical and professional problem?A. C. L. Holden - 2018 - Medicine, Health Care and Philosophy 21 (4):583-589.
The rise and persistence of a commercial model of healthcare and the potential shift towards the commodification of dental services, provided to consumers, should provoke thought about the nature and purpose of dentistry and whether this paradigm is cause for concern. Within this article, whether dentistry is a commodity and the legitimacy of dentistry as a business is explored and assessed. Dentistry is perceived to be a commodity, dependent upon the context of how services are to be provided and the (...)

The star-nosed mole is aptly named. Its distinctive snout consists of 22 tendrils ringing a pair of nostrils and, from some angles, the entire setup resembles a misshapen star. The tendrils are fleshy and look a bit like fingers, and, like fingers, they have a certain dexterity. But why? Why does the mole have such a singular appendage as opposed to something more ordinary? What is the function or purpose of this bizarre structure? From the dedicated work of Ken Catania, (...)

  39. Education and gender differences.A. C. Grayling - unknown
Half-lost in the now predictable August clamour about sex differences in examination results, renewed today by publication of the GCSE results, are old familiar clues, swirling neglected like scraps of paper in the storm around our heads. In one page of the newspaper you read that girls are doing better than boys at A Level and GCSE, in another you read that young women get fewer Firsts at Oxford than young men, in a third you read how much better all (...)

When Matthew Arnold wrote Culture and Anarchy over a hundred years ago, he gave expression to the ideal of excellence in the fostering of culture, by describing it as "getting to know, on all the matters that most concern us, the best which has been thought and said in the world, and, through this knowledge, turning a stream of fresh and free thought upon our stock notions and habits." Arnold was an inspector of schools, and a champion of higher education, (...)
